Being a Varanasi I know the importance of Dussehra.  The memory of going to see Ravan Dahan is still in my mind. I still remember that every child has some special plan for Dusshera Mela.  once again, it’s that time of the year and the entire country is gearing up for the grand celebrations of Dussehra (also known as Durga Puja and Vijayadashami), the festival which marks Lord Ram’s victory over the demon king Ravana and Goddess Durga’s triumph over the evil Mahisasura. This meticulous festival is not only religiously significant but is also socially highly praised in our country. During this time you will find a lot of big pandals of Durga Maa and many preparations of Ramlila.

Varanasi Dussehra, world’s oldest documented Ramleela

Let me tell you that Varanasi’s Ramleela is the oldest in the world, which is more than 475 years old! This fact finds its mention in Ramcharitmanas, an epic poem penned by the noted saint Tulsidas. I still remember the Ram nagar  Varanasi  grounds turns into a mega stage during this day and people from all over visit to witness the scene of Ravana Dahan .
