No matter how old we have grown, our mothers will ensure that we don’t miss our daily glass of milk. But how true this belief that milk helps in a child’s growth is, we unveil here.

Does milk help in child’s growth?

Your child’s growth and height don't depend on nutrition alone. They also depend on various other factors, like genetics. According to health experts, 20 to 40 per cent of your child’s growth depends on non-genetic factors, in which nutrition plays a major role. Usually, it has been found that children who are malnourished are thin and short than others of their age.

Why milk is important

Milk consists of various essential nutrients that help in building strong bones and muscles. A glass of milk will provide you calcium, protein, potassium, certain vitamins, iodine and phosphorus. Hence, it provides your child with certain essential components that help in building body mass and growth.

How does milk help in growth?

It should be noted that drinking milk cannot change your genetics or other factors like low growth hormones. Its nutrients can prevent the body from losing out on certain nutrients which may be lacking in the body. Milk helps in supplying vitamin A and D and calcium. Vitamin A promotes bone growth, vitamin D helps in preserving bone strength and calcium acts as a building block for your bones. Hence, vitamin A, D and calcium influence your height, and thus, milk becomes an essential part of your daily diet.

Your age also determines your growth

If you have already stopped growing, milk or any other product cannot influence your height. Your height usually grows till 18-20, depending on your gender and certain other factors, and post that, nothing can help you in growing taller.
