Flora and Fauna of Kufri
The world is a book and those who don’t travel just read the one page of life. In my book of life I found Kufri accidently. I still remember when we were heading towards Shimla suddenly the snow fall started and we had to stop in Kufri. Really Kufri is so picturesque. It’s like a beautiful painting. Kufri is a tiny hill station located just 13 km from Shimla. Kufri lies at an altitude of 9000 ft and is best known as a ski destination. Adventure places to see in and around Kufri are touched by the glory of the high mountain peaks and secluded romance. The name Kufri came from the word “Kufri” meaningLake in the local language. Kufri is a great place to unwind—with panoramic views of the Himalayas, adventure sports, steep hikes and even a few interesting sightseeing spots — here’s how you can make the most of your getaway.
THE HIMALAYAN NATURE PARK
Sprawled across 90 hectares and comprising of a diverse range of western Himalayan flora and fauna, the Himalayan Nature Park is home to a large variety of animals and over 180 species of birds, and is one of the biggest draws for tourists visiting the area.
FAGU
Located between two valleys and surrounded by apple orchards, Fagu is ideal for skiing in the winter months, and makes a great spot for a picnic during the summer. Just six km ahead of Kufri this little village overlooks the Giri valley and has a tourist bungalow perched right at the top.
SKIING IN KUFRI
If you're visiting Kufri during the winter, it's the best time for a spot of skiing. For beginners, there are several gentle slopes to ease into things, while the pros can flaunt their skills down the slope from Mahasu. The government offers a number of ski courses ranging from a day to several days—ski equipment is available for hire as well—where experienced instructors teach you the ropes.
