While the generally practiced norm of Diwali in India is to worship Goddess Laxmi, the concept is different in the City of Joy, Kolkata. Besides, the spectacular fireworks are also worth witnessing in Amritsar.

Varanasi

What makes the Diwali celebrations in Varanasi really special is the fact that this place celebrates the festival for as long as a fortnight and is considered to be one of the best places to visit in Diwali vacation. The place turns into a haven for travellers and a paradise for photographs, thanks to the kind of proceedings that make up the entire Diwali celebrations of this place. Varanasi celebrates what is known as Dev Deepavali or the Diwali of the Gods, wherein grand rituals are undertaken by the priests at Ravidas Ghat and Raj Ghat to welcome the gods, who are believed to descend to Earth just to bathe in the holy waters of River Ganga flowing past this city.
