If you are diabetic then you must read this article.

As we all knew that Diabetes is a lifelong condition wherein a person's glucose (sugar) levels in the blood become very high. This is caused either because the body cannot produce insulin or the body is not able to use the insulin produced in an effective manner. Insulin is a hormone that controls the amount of glucose (sugar) in the blood. The two main types of diabetes are type 1 and type 2 and a third type is also recognized, known as gestational diabetes. One can develop diabetes at any age. Both women and men are susceptible to diabetes. In this article, we will get to know more about these diseases.

Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes, usually occurs among young people; however, it can also develop in adults. In type 1 diabetes, the body does not make enough insulin. The reason behind this is a malfunctioning immune system. This system normally protects you from infection by getting rid of bacteria, viruses, and other harmful substances. In patients with type 1 diabetes, the immune system attacks and destroys the cells that make insulin in pancreas. This lack of insulin leads to high sugar levels.

Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 diabetes, can affect people at any age, even children. However, there are certain predisposing factors for developing type 2 diabetes. It is seen most often in middle-aged and older people. Obesity and a sedentary lifestyle also contribute to a person developing type 2 diabetes. In type 2 diabetes, the body cannot use the insulin that is released (called insulin resistance/ insensitivity) properly or does not make enough insulin. As a result, sugar builds up in the blood instead of being used as energy.

Gestational Diabetes

Gestational diabetes is a temporary condition seen in pregnant women. In pregnant women, the body may not be able to use insulin efficiently enough late in their pregnancy, causing insulin resistance. If the pancreas doesn't make enough insulin during pregnancy, a woman develops gestational diabetes. Overweight or obese women or gaining too much weight during pregnancy may increase the likelihood of developing gestational diabetes.
