Uttar Pradesh
Apart from the fast, married women in UP decorate the walls of their home with drawings of Gauri Ma, the moon and the sun. They also have the ritual of making karwa with mud and perform the evening puja with earthen lamps.
Gujarat
The fast of Karwa Chauth holds importance in other state of India too. In Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, observing Karwa Chauth has huge importance especially for new brides. It is the day of new clothes, new jewellery and gifts from both mother and mother-in-law.
Maharashtra
In Maharashtra, Karwa Chauth is not popular, but a similar fast of 'Vaat Savitri' is kept by married women.
