Kodo Nishimura is a Buddhist monk from Tokyo, you perhaps might say, what is so unique in that? Well, just to let you know, the 26-years-old who completed his training and became a monk in 2015 is not just a usual monk but a much-known make-up artist as well! And if that's surprising, there are many interesting aspects of his personality that would leave you aghast!
Besides having two drastically parallel professions that you might ever come across, he is the one who is on the path to breaking all stereotypes!
You would be shocked to know that he isn't any regular makeup artist, Miss universe pageant is one of his clients! He is very popular in his field and very experienced at the same time...
“It isn’t wrong if it helps you deliver your message to people”
Though initially, he started with helping his friends for doing makeup. Eventually, his interest developed and he decided to take it as his career and since then there is no looking back!
As we all face many difficulties while working on any profession, he also did face some of them. At a point in his life, there were many questions in his mind about the peculiar choice of career as: Is it correct to be a makeup artist if I am a monk? I m not doing justice to the community I belong? and much more... He was actually stuck between what is right and what is not? Well, why not? It's natural because monks are generally religious, they don’t wear heavy jewels and live a simple life, while on the contrary, his profession needed him to get well dressed up, wear lavish jeweler and stuff.
However, Nishimura says his mentor's words gave him the courage to choose the never taken before path,
“It isn’t wrong if it helps you deliver your message to people.”
He gained publicity in a photo shoot called 'OUT IN JAPAN'
Nishimura also gained publicity as LGBTQ in a photo shoot known as OUT IN JAPAN. He gave advice to the transgender people who had no clue about make-up. He also took a keen interest in taking workshops and seminars on the same.
“As a Buddhist monk, I want everyone to live happily in harmony. I believe makeup is one of the tools to make yourself happy, and if you’re happy, it becomes easier to be kind to others. In that sense, I think it’s a good link,”
Many people would consider him wrong, however if that's what gives him happiness then isn't it enough for us to accept and admire his choices?
